Bridging the Gap

Cultivating healthy relationships with yourself, others, nature and the world around you

Monday, July 19 2010

Hello everybody,
I hope you are all doing well and having a good Summer. In an attempt to keep it short(er), I am making this a two-part newsletter.

For a long time I thought “it” was the threat of terrorism, or the two long, drawn out wars we are involved in. Then I shifted the blame to the global financial crisis, divisive politics, the bad economy, corporate and government abuses, and the pending destruction of our planet. For variety, I tossed in the un-ending cold wet and intense—underlining the word Intense—Spring we had here in the Northwest, but luckily the warmth of Summer arrived. But the “it” still remained.

“It”, being the growing intensity of fear and anxiety that seems to be consuming so many, myself included. Have you noticed this as well? There is actually a positive twist to this. So please keep reading.

Hope it resonates,
Brad

Part 1
Separation: The Cry from Within

So here is my take on the situation.

Our authentic and eternal self—some may call it the God or the Divine within us—is crying out loud from deep inside. It has been cut off from its Source, desperately trying to work its way to the surface to reconnect with the Divinity and the Universe surrounding us. Am I talking about original sin? Maybe, but I will leave that up to you.

I used to think we were heading into dark times based on the issues the world is facing today, but my perspective is changing. Although I still believe we are on a destructive path as humans, I now view our situation with more hope. I believe that we are actually living in brighter times, where the light is growing and increasing in intensity everyday. As a result, this light is casting a shadow on that which is dark, illuminating the pockets of darkness that have cleverly hid for so long.

We need destruction in order to recreate ourselves; it’s natural law. So this separation from Source may be difficult and uncomfortable but it is also very important in our evolution and growth process.

I believe this illuminating shift has been taking place for a while now. Do you find yourself seeing injustices and destructive human patterns today that you didn’t notice 20 or 30 years ago? I know I do.

This phenomenon is not just happening externally. If we turn our attention inward, to the “Cry,” we’ll start seeing this cry as a form of light, one that is amplifying and growing in intensity. As this light grows, it exposes our fears, darkness, and demons that lie within. These layers act as a buffer, preventing us from reconnecting to the collective. This process occurs whether we want it to or not.

The good news…this is VERY empowering. If you see the darkness as external, then it is out of your control. External causes are endless supplies of misery that are often out of our control. However, if you shift your thinking and see the darkness as coming from within, although not pleasant, you can own it and have the ability to see it, work with it, and clean it out.

As uncomfortable as this may be, experiencing and processing emotions—ALL of them—is really a celebration of life. So if you’re tired of waiting for the world end and want to honor the joy of life, come join me at my upcoming workshop in the Gorge, as we connect with each other and the land around us.
